Improv Class Details
This 8-week course is designed to introduce students to the core tenets of long-form improv. We will focus on agreement, listening, and group mind. Don’t know what any of that means? We will teach you! After eight weeks with us you will have a better understanding of the art and craft of improvisation. Above all, you will be a better stage performer, listener, public speaker, and let’s face it, person.
Our improv class is designed for those who want to be challenged, meet interesting people, and be a part of Palm Beach County’s growing art scene. We welcome students who have performance aspirations and those who do not. Students completing the level one class will have an opportunity to continue their work in the next level class with one of Mod 27’s experienced instructors. This program will culminate with an end to end performance.
About Mod 27
Mod 27 is Palm Beach County’s longest running comedy improv company featuring an experienced cast performing Chicago-style improvisation and sketch comedy. Mod 27 takes suggestions from the audience and uses them to perform fully improvised games and scenes. Founded in 2002, Mod 27 has traveled throughout the US and Canada performing improvisation including: Chicago, New York, Toronto, Austin, and Phoenix. Mod 27 opened for Horacio Sands at the 2005 Del Close Marathon, the largest US improv festival, based in NYC.
Marisa Palazzotto has been acting and performing in the Palm Beach County area since 2012. She worked her way onto Mod 27’s house troupe Bananas Republic after seeing them live and saying to herself “I wanna do that with those people.” In addition to her monthly shows with Mod 27, she has performed with various troupes at the Miami Improv Festival, Gainesville Improv Festival, and Palm Beach Improv Festival. Marisa honed her acting chops at Bob Carter’s Actor’s Rep, where she was lucky enough to play Miss Margarida in “Miss Margarida’s Way”, a one-woman show that required lots of improv (and swearing). Marisa works a day job as a high school Spanish teacher, so she figures she’s pretty well qualified for the role of improv instructor. In her free time she bakes bread and cookies for her family (and maybe her students if they’re lucky!).
